Alistair FAQ.

Time to clear up any misunderstandings

Torania only ships with Alistairs?

Yes. I will only ship Torania with Alistairs because they are all she tends to fall for, and it makes sense for her character.

You are just doing this because you are thirsty!

Perhaps... but please consider this. I also write my own Alistair. This is the default Alistair that I use when working with other people. I have an Alistair BLOG. Even if I am “just thirsty” is that so horrible?

Does this blog force ship?

No! Tori never has and never will force ship. In fact I tend to follow the Alistair mun’s lead

How many Alistairs will this Journal RP With?

As many as I can and that I feel do Alistair enough justice for me to want to roleplay with them. Look at it this way. Because I ship Tori with only Alistairs chances are I am going to want to rp with every Alistair blog out there to see if they fit. Because I can’t ship anywhere else

You must collects them like objects/You can't possibly treat the muns like people

Well... If you multiship... do you treat the people you ship with like objects? No?Then why would I? I am good at keeping verses straight. I value all the Alistairs I interact with and try to interact with them and become friends ooc too if I can. If they have ocs I try to focus extra on them as well!

All you care about is Alistair!

Not so! I have friends in this fandom that have never rped as Alistair and I love them just as much!

The Mun likes Alistair too that’s creepy!

Yes I like Alistair, I am also a sane human who is capable of telling myself from my character. And who realises other muns writing Alistair are not actually Alistair.

Torania & Alistair

Please note that this is mainverse! Every Alistair gets a verse of their own and things here are only true if they wish!

Short Version

It was important for me not to fall into the “Alistair blindly worships his vastly superior wife” trap because that I do not think is a good relationship.

A good relationshionship, I think, is when you adore someone for both their strengths and weaknesses because both of them are them.

It’s when you are able to help them be a better them by helping them when it comes to their weaknesses.

This is the thing that is so often forgotten I think. Love is not enough for a relationship to be a good one. A good relationship has to be a partnership.

One has to be able to give your partner something they need just by being yourself.

Consciously and subconsciously I made sure Alistair and Torania do this.

Let’s start with Torania.

Alistair can sooth her temper. He can make her laugh at even herself. His compassion is a bright light in a dark world. Torania is weak emotionally. The very way Alistair is amazingly strong. She feels ok breaking down to him unlike she does to anyone else. He has shown her that being strong is not always what she thought it was, that it’s ok to be “weak” at times. Alistair has softened her and helped her mature. He is not threatened by the fact that she is quite frankly a much better fighter than he is. He is one of the few people who can put his foot down when she is being too ridiculously stubborn about certain things. He makes her happy simply by doing things that are just so Alistair. That is what she loves him best for. She appreciates it when he says nice sweet romantic things to her. But thats not why she loves him. Lots of men could do that. It’s just by being naturally him that he lights up her world.

As for Alistair….

Torania never gets tired of complimenting him and telling him how amazing he is. This builds up his low self esteem. He may never believe the wonderful things she says about him. But she believes them and repeats them often enough that he does not have time to wonder if she might have changed her mind.

Also she needs him. Not for being king. Not for his birth. Not for his skills. but just for being him. For most of his life Alistair has been an unwanted burden. With the wardens he was no burden and he was wanted but they did not really truly need him. His templar abilities were helpful but that was not the same as being needed just for being Alistair, and that’s why Torania needs him. Just for being him.

Long Version

Torania has a vulnerable side despite all her cockiness and insane fighting skills. Mostly it’s emotional. If you asked her who the strongest person in the world was she would not answer herself. She would say Alistair.

After loosing most of her family Torania was numb. She hurt inside, though of course she did her best not to show it. Then she met Alistair and he made her laugh. then Ostagar came and Alistair lost everything. but to her surprise he started to make jokes again. He would do things she wondered,  like some of the interactions with her dog, she wondered if he was doing it just to make her feel better. Alistair dragged them both through their grief with his own inner nature and Torania sees him as the strongest man in the world for that.

So Torania might be a better fighter, she might be a strong confident woman, but Alistair is her rock. Their relationship is not an uneven one.

Torania does not love Alistair the most when he’s saying those romantic things to her. (Though yes she does appreciate this.) She loves him best when he’s funny. She loves him best when he’s sarcastic. She loves him best when he’s witty. She loves him best when he’s just being Alistair. Anyone can spout traditional romantic lines. Only Alistair can be the compassionate, funny, earnest, strong yet gentle, man she fell in love with. Alistair is a gem to her. A man one in a million. She still can’t quite believe that the maker let something like this exist. Let alone find her. Let alone fall for her in return. Torania would do anything for Alistair. Her fierce loyalty gives her extra strength when he is threatened. She keeps no secrets. She does not coddle him. She treats him as she thinks he deserves. A partner.

TORANIA IS A CHARACTER WHO IS INSANELY STRONG ON THE OUTSIDE BUT NOT STRONG ON THE INSIDE EMOTIONALLY IN MANY WAYS AND WHO DESPERATELY TIRES TO HIDE THAT FACT

Torania respects Alistair. That is also important in my mind. She sees the strengths in him many others ignore. Alistair is not a puppet to her. That would not be a healthy relationship. Alistair is able to do aspects of leadership she can’t like relate to the common people. They respect Torania but they would never really talk to her. Alistair however is good at putting them at ease. And Torania thinks Alistair is the strongest man in the world (For reasons above)

For his part Alistair is able to accept that his wife is quite simply a better fighter than he will ever be. He is ok with that and what is more It does not stop him from treating her like a woman. Little romantic gestures, Sweeping her off her feet. Showing her she is something to be cherished.

For his side Alistair lived most of his life being unwanted and later he is needed only for superficial things such as his templar abilities and his blood.

With Torania this is not the case as depicted in my drabble “Something Precious” Torania needs and adores Alistair just for being who he is. For someone like Alistair I think this would be very important. Torania tends to adore Alistair even for the things others call childish. He and Ferelden are her raison de’etre.

Torania is a Demiromantic Demisexual. As such falling for Alistair was also a bigstep in emotional growth for her because it was the first (and last) time she was ever physically attracted to anyone.

Rules

This is an independant Dragon Age roleplay blog.

  • I will rp before, during, or after the blight.

  • I’d love to skype with you! Do ask!

  • If I do something wrong do tell! but nicly and off anon.

  • I do blood and gore and all that stuff. I’m +18

  • I’m fine doing multi fandom! We can try to find a way!

Good to Know

  • (Tor-ah-nee-uh /  Coos-land  / Thare-in)

  • The proper address for a queen is “your majesty” anything less is considered an insult

  • “Ferelden” is the term for the nation but people from it are “Fereldan”

  • If you are an Alistair blog and have concerns about roleplaying with me please read this. Feel free to send in any questions.

  • Yes I am a Queen Cousland. And I will be one no matter how much hate the fandom throws. U mad Bro?

Shipping

  • By default, unless you are an Alistair, Torania is in a relationship with Alistair or has yet to enter into one but will.

  • If you are an Alistair blog I might not want to ship with you right away but have Tori and Alistair get to know each other a bit first

  • In General other than that, if you are an Alistair blog, I will follow your lead. Friends during the blight as long as you want that to be how things are. Romance only as you wish for it.

Other Wardens

  • I am fine roleplaying with other wardens

  • Torania gave up being Commander of the Grey after Awakening, so your warden could have taken over as commander then. Or been Commander originally while Torania was just queen

  • If your warden is a Cousland they can be siblings

  • As for who killed the archdemon I like this to be Torania. If need be Tori and your warden can have done the deed together at the same time.

  • As for choices, Torania would listen to your warden on their area of speciality. If your warden is a Dalish or perhaps even city elf she will listen to them there. If your warden is a dwarf she will listen to them on who becomes king of Orzammar. Torania will not however compromise on saving Conner the “right” way. Or destroying the anvil of the void.

On Lore

  • The Mun is HIGHLY knowledgeable on certain aspects of Dragon Age Lore especially those related to Ferelden. However there are others she does not know as much about.

  • Please think carefully before challenging any of her Ferelden related headcanons or lore. I do not say this to be a jerk but because I have studied this nation for hours and hours as I depict its queen. 99% of the time what happens is I pull of a source and people feel awkward.

  • In Contrast mun does not know as much about the Dalish or the Qun or places MY muse might not know as much about. So I will trust your judgment there.

  • Lastly Torania will likely know less about some aspects of Thedas then I do. Especially early on in her timeline she will be rather ignorant about elves and mages and the like.

Chances are Torania WILL be a better fighter than your character.

Let me explain. A big part of Torania’s character is that she is the best fighter In all of Ferelden and Likley Thedas. I am sick of limiting Torania for fear of stepping on toes so I’m adding this to the rules as a warning to people.

You need to understand this is not a trait that I lightly threw at her because I want her to be a extra special snowflake. Torania had some natural gifts but mostly this woman worked her ass off. If you have read the bio you have read the fighting headcannon. You will know how thought out this is. You can also read this drabble.

Someone has to be the best. And while she is not invincible that is Torania.

That is not to say that there will not be elements of combat you can be better at!

  • Torania is no mage and cannot do area-of-effect, healing, or other mage spells

  • Torania is rougeish but did not develop her sneaking talents very far.

  • Though Torania can use throwing knives she is rubbish at archery and cannot do true long range.

  • Torania is not as strong as a regular warrior.

  • Torania is not as skilled as making poisions

I will not be hopping around this topic of her skills. anymore.

Side Muses

  • I Have an Alistair and Zevran muse I can bring into threads

  • I have muses for Torania’s guards

On The Mun’s Mental Disorders And How They Effect Roleplay

Simply put, I am, due to multiple mental disorders, what is called “fragile.” This means I fight a constant war with my blend of Aspergers syndrome, Depression, OCD, ADD, And Anxiety Disorder in order to be able to function.

There will be times where I go a long time without replying to you because I am currently losing that battle.

This does not mean I don’t want to roleplay with you. There will be times where I only am doing banters. etc…. And there will be times where if we are doing multiple threads I am only up to replying to one of them.

But there will also be times where I lose track of our thread.

Feel free to remind me up to once a week about a thread we have. I will tell you if my mental issues are stopping me from getting to it and as long as you do not act all offended at that point it will all be good.

A Few Misconceptions

Torania is NOT a self insert Character. Torania is not me. I am not Torania.

I did not choose Torania because she could marry Alistair. Torania’s first year of development was not online but rather LARPing Dragon Age with my sister. I originally tried to use my royal dwarf (do what I would do) warden, However my little sister informed me that the dwarf was too grumpy. So I switched to Torania and she soon became my baby.

Personal Issues

In general I am a highly nice and caring person. (Many of my friends in the fandom can atest to this.) That said if you have a problem with me or know someone who has had a problem with me it will likely be for one of the following reasons.

  • I am a highly opinionated person, My muse sometimes more so

We can agree to disagree that is fine. But the thing is I will not turn down a plot that comes to me that rubs against things, instead I will throw my muses into it and they will act according to their views. (If you propose to have an elven queen married to Alistair instead of Torania. Torania might be suppressing jelously and worried about keeping the nobles in line.) If you propose a plot that goes against what I view as plausible for my characters to face in the dragon age world I will work with you and try to tweak it a bit so there is more of a compromise.

  • Torania loves Alistair

Unless you are an Alistair blog I will not be afraid to show this when applicable. If you are a Cousland and want to do before Origins that is fine

  • I will be honest with you

Only ask my opinion if you want it. Chances are I will give it to you. On the other hand I do NOT give false compliments.

  • And lastly though it is now uncommon I might occasionally do something rude without realising how it is rude.

This is an effect of my aspergers syndrome. Please explain to me what I am doing wrong nicely but directly. This helps me learn so I do not do it in the future. Staying quiet doesn’t help me at all and getting mad or nasty with me only upsets and confuses me because I have no freaking clue why people are suddenly hating on me.

Choices:

  • Recruited everyone

  • Spared the mages

  • Saved Conner by going into the fade

  • Preserved the urn

  • Left the dragon alive and Genetivi alive

  • gave Jowen to the circle

  • Let Alistair kill Loghain in the duel

  • Recruited everyone into the new wardens

  • Killed the architect

  • Watched Morrigan go through the mirror.

Funfacts:

  • Her Mabari is named Chompers and is male

  • She was never the Cousland heir. That was Always Fergus (Now it is his son.)

  • Torania is a bit of an adrenaline junky

  • She is incredibly flexible. (Think Contortionist)

  • She is skinny in a bonny way

  • She has no curves.

  • Torania could be called pretty but never beautiful if one is being objective.

  • She is 5’5

  • She gave up being Warden Commander shortly after Awakening. Being that and queen was just too much for one person.

“POSSIBLY THE GREATEST FIGHTER THEDAS HAS EVER KNOWN. DUTY RUNS THROUGH HER BLOOD, SHE IS A WOMAN CONSTANTLY TORN ASUNDER, THOUGH ONE WOULD NEVER GUESS.”

Torania changed as a person greatly over the course of her journey.

This is part of her character development. As it mentions in the “please read” things Tori was never a true intellectual, though she can be very clever at times. This was especially true before her journey to fight the blight. Though she did enjoy battle tactics and history, and knows a good deal about Ferelden, Tori was very hesitant to show any leadership abilities except when backed into a corner. and only then when it came to battle. This was because she thought of being a noble as a cage. One she was determined to avoid to go off and become a wandering hero.

Skip ahead to when she becomes queen Tori suddenly is able to show her creativity in thought process and other traits that make her a good leader. She has resigned herself to “the golden cage” and is not trying to avoid it anymore.

Torania is a very physical person though and that has never changed. She will still go nuts if she cannot have a good fight now and then.

Another thing that changes over time is her temper and harshness. The more time she spends with Alistair the less harsh she becomes.

Also Please Note:

In her default state Torania is VERY blunt and direct. This might give the impression that she cannot function in the world of politics but this is not true at all. Torania is capable of going into a “queen mode” Where she is extremely tactful and eloquent. She can also go into a mode where she pretends quite convincingly to be much more violent than she actually is.
